Polly Ingram

Ph.D. Candidate, Clinical Science

About

Hello! My name is Polly Ingram and I am a doctoral candidate in Clinical Science at Indiana University. Before starting my Ph.D. training in 2018, I got my bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

As a clinical scientist, I am intensely interested in investigating the role of self-knowledge (e.g., self-concept, identity, personality) in substance use, particularly maintaining problematic substance misuse. I am also fascinated by the nosology and classification of substance use disorders, as well as the topology of symptom networks. I am also excited about using emerging quantitative methods (e.g., network analysis) to explore models of psychopathology.

I am committed to evidence-based practice and the cognitive-behavioral orientation in which I was trained. In my clinical work, I have predominantly used the Unified Protocol, as well as other manuals from the Treatments that Work series. I have been trained in Motivational Interviewing and often adhere to those techniques in my practice.  I am interested in developing my understanding of third-wave cognitive-behavioral approaches, as well as continuing to work with clients who use substances.
